Coaching – FAQ
Coaching is an applied practice where you engage in discussions with a trained coach, typically in a one-on-one setting. The discussion between you and your coach can vary depending on your needs.
Problem Solving: Coaching is often used to clarify a problem, assist the coachee in unearthing options for solving it, and empower them to develop a plan to overcome it.
Seizing Opportunity: Coaching can help clarify potential opportunities, aiding the coachee in creating their own path forward to realize the opportunity’s value.
Interpersonal Challenges: Working with a coach can help you improve interpersonal relationships with others, including your spouse, children, and coworkers.
Communication Skills: Coaching can help you further develop your communication skills by identifying and unblocking self-imposed limitations on your abilities.
The number of working sessions required to see results will vary greatly depending on your needs. The complexity of the problem or opportunity you want to address would be discussed in an initial consult to determine the suggested number of coaching sessions.
You will likely experience some benefit from a single one-hour coaching session. However, for the best results, it’s recommended to have multiple sessions to fully build trust in your coach and the coaching method they employ.
Coaching is not the same as Counselling, or Psychotherapy.
Coaches focus on the present and future, helping you to identify goals, leverage personal strengths and take action.
Counselling or Psychotherapy focuses on understanding, resolving and healing emotional trauma and pain carried through from the past.
I employ non-directive coaching; this method involves asking open-ended questions so that you can unearth your strengths and develop plans to achieve your goals.
